Law Enforcement Officers Safety and Wellness (OSAW) Series

The Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness (OSAW) Initiative is a nationally representative, longitudinal, multi-level study of law enforcement officer safety, health, and wellness. OSAW was also designed to document the well-being of law enforcement officers with reference to other population samples. The original study launched in 2017, OSAW-A, generated two nationally representative datasets to help researchers, law enforcement organizations, and policymakers adapt, design, and evaluate policies and programs to address risk factors for law enforcement officers' wellness and safety outcomes. OSAW-B was launched in 2018 to build on OSAW-A, and to conduct a longitudinal national survey of law enforcement officers and correctional officers to examine the state of officer safety and wellness, job satisfaction, and job performance.
