Discover Data

By using keyword search, you’ll be able to find results across studies, variables, publications, and series in our collection.

  • Our search indexes the full documentation for datasets, including descriptions of the variables.
  • You can search for more than one keyword:
    drug use arrest victimization
  • Use quotes to look for a phrase; use the minus sign to remove items from results:
    "drug use" -alcohol
  • All studies are described using terms from the ICPSR Subject Thesaurus; these terms will appear as “Subject” filters on the left side of the results page.

Other Ways to Find Data

We provide several other ways to find, evaluate, and select NACJD datasets below.

  • Staff announce new data releases.
  • Serial collections (e.g., the National Crime Victimization Survey) are grouped in a single convenient location.
  • ICPSR’s Social Science Variables Database allows you to identify and compare variables (e.g., questions, fields, items) across studies. Searches return variables for which the search term is present in the variable name or label, question text (when present), and value labels.
  • We group studies you can analyze online in one location.
  • Increasingly, we accept and process qualitative datasets, which are available for you to use.
