The Chicago Lawyers Survey Series provides detailed information about the legal profession and practice of law. Lawyers in Chicago, Illinois, were surveyed in 1975 and in 1994-1995 about their profession. The 1975 data collection, CHICAGO LAWYERS SURVEY, 1975 (ICPSR8218) sought to discover and analyze the social organization of the legal profession, the nature of lawyers' work, prestige within the profession, as well as lawyers' personal values, career patterns, and mobility. The 1994-1995 survey, CHICAGO LAWYERS SURVEY, 1994-1995 (ICPSR4100), which was a partial replication of the 1975 survey, sought to explore the processes of change that transformed the practice of law and the market for legal services in the intervening years.
