The NACJD dataset I wish to analyze is restricted. What do I have to do to get the data?

In general, information on how to obtain the data of interest can be found on the study’s home page. Near the bottom of the page, under “Restrictions”, there is a note indicating how the restricted data can be obtained.

Before you begin the restricted data application process, you should know the following:

●  Restricted data is generally only made available to PhD-level researchers and their staff; it is not appropriate for undergraduate-level projects or coursework.

●  The application review timeline varies and can take as little as a few days or as much as 4-6 weeks depending on completeness of application materials.

●  You’ll need to provide information about your project, including the technical specifications of how you intend to securely store and access the data.

●  You will need to obtain approval or exemption from your institution’s  Institutional Review Board. If your institution does not have an IRB, you should have the project reviewed by an independent IRB that is accredited with the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Program, Inc. (AAHRPP).

NACJD encourages the use of restricted data, however, we are also careful about protecting respondent confidentiality and ensuring that restricted data is used appropriately.

More information about NACJD restricted data, application processes, and access mechanisms can be found on our restricted data resources page.
