Data Guides Now Available for the Chitwan Valley [Nepal] Family Study Series

The Chitwan Valley [Nepal] Family Study (CVFS) Series has been enhanced with a new resource to assist researchers with understanding and using the studies in this series. Data guides are now available for:

CVFS: Changing Social Contexts and Family Formation, Nepal, 1995-2017 (ICPSR 4538)

CVFS: Labour Outmigration, Agricultural Productivity and Food Security, Nepal, 2015-2017 (ICPSR 36755)

The CVFS Data Guides include information on sampling, available datasets, variables, and merging files along with other data-related information. Each data guide can also be downloaded as a DS0 study-level file from the “Data & Documentation” tab of each study home page.

In addition, value labels for 13 variables in datasets 13 and 28 of CVFS: Changing Social Contexts and Family Formation (ICPSR 4538) have been modified. The value labels for these variables relating to month names have been updated from western values (1-January, 2-February, etc.) to Nepali month names. There have been no adjustments to the actual data.

The CVFS is a comprehensive mixed method panel study of individuals, families, and communities in the Chitwan Valley of Nepal. The study investigates the influence of social contexts on population processes and the relationships between the environment and population processes. The data include full life histories for more than 10,000 individuals, tracking and interviews with all migrants, and linked human and natural systems.
