DSDR facilitates new research on populations and population health by helping researchers discover datasets for secondary analysis. To make this possible, the searchable DSDR catalog includes studies with:
- Public data available for download through the DSDR website
- Restricted data available by approved application and controlled access via DSDR
- Data from external sources that are discoverable in the DSDR catalog
Public Data
To access public data files, you must log in to DSDR with a free ICPSR Researcher Passport account which can be linked to an existing Google, LinkedIn, or ORCID account. You must also agree to comply with the study’s Terms of Use and, in some cases, provide additional registration information. Researcher Passport login is not required to view or download documentation files. Online analysis enables statistical analysis without downloading a dataset and is available for some public data files. Study-level metadata records can be downloaded from each study’s home pages in multiple formats. Study-level metadata is also available for batch export using the ICPSR Metadata API.
The searches on this page return content related to DSDR. Please use the ICPSR main search to search all ICPSR holdings.
Restricted Data
Some data in DSDR’s holdings require restricted access due to an increased risk of identifying individuals or organizations within the data (disclosure risk) or highly sensitives topics. To access restricted data, researches must complete an application and agree to follow strict legal and security requirements to maintain data confidentiality. Access is granted through one of the following methods:
- Secure Download: Acces the data using an approved local computing system
- Virtual Data Enclave (VDE): Access the data remotely
- Physical Data Enclave (PDE): Access the in person at the University of Michigan
