What is the ICPSR Data Access Request System (IDARS)?

ICPSR Data Access Request System (IDARS) allows researchers to fill out an online application for access to restricted data via secure download. To access the IDARS system, researchers must sign on with a Researcher Passport account.

After a researcher completes and submits the application, staff use this system to carefully review and approve the request. An encrypted download link is then emailed to approved researchers to access the restricted data. Please note that staff do not use this system to evaluate the validity of the proposed research question; rather, we assess the security measures undertaken by the researcher to prevent disclosure risk.
