CivicLEADS Releases Second Wave of Youth Participatory Politics Survey Project Data

The Youth Participatory Politics Survey Project (YPPSP) has collected multiple waves of survey data from nationally representative samples of young people in the United States with oversamples of African American and Latino youth. The Civic Learning, Engagement, and Action Data Sharing (CivicLEADS) project at ICPSR at the University of Michigan has recently released Wave Two of the YPPSP data for secondary analysis. Wave Two collected data from 2,343 respondents ages 15-27 and was administered from July 2013 to November 2013. The survey project is led by Principal Investigators Cathy Cohen (University of Chicago) and Joseph Kahne (University of California, Riverside). Survey questions examine the quantity, quality, and equality of youth new media practices, political and civic attitudes and behavior, and engagement in what we have labeled digitally enabled “participatory politics.” These data provide researchers with a unique opportunity to investigate how youth from a variety of backgrounds participate in and experience public life, online and off. For detailed information about YPPSP data and secondary analysis, please watch videos of a data training workshop presented at the 2017 American Political Science Association Annual Meeting.

YPPSP Wave One data (collected in 2011) are also available via CivicLEADS.
