ICPSR Biennial Meeting 2025 Unites Data Community in Ann Arbor
The 2025 ICPSR Biennial Meeting, held June 18-20 at the University of Michigan, brought together 106 attendees–including 48 ICPSR Representatives and 32 first-time participants–for three days of workshops, presentations, and networking. Centered on the “Camp ICPSR” theme, the event highlighted creative approaches to data sharing, research collaboration, and the integration of innovative tools across disciplines.
Participants attended sessions on practical data management, the application of artificial intelligence in research, and the utilization of ICPSR’s expanding data resources. A highlight was the “Data in Action: Solutions for Recovery and Resilience” session, where experts demonstrated methods to protect and recover at-risk datasets, and attendees took part in a hands-on data rescue activity. Other notable events included hands-on workshops, the unveiling of collaborative projects such as the digitization of historic U.S. Census data, and an engaging panel on emerging trends in social science data. The meeting also introduced attendees to ICPSR’s ongoing platform modernization project, backed by record NSF funding.
Another highlight of the gathering was the ICPSR Awards dinner, where the honorees for 2025 were recognized for outstanding contributions to the field of social science data. Connections forged during poster sessions, award celebrations, and interactive discussions energized the community and inspired attendees with new strategies and partnerships for the future of data-driven research.
