Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA)
The Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA) establishes the required standards for hosting government information, according to the standards outlined in National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-53. FISMA categorizes security requirements into three levels based on information sensitivity. ICPSR’s systems are certified to operate at the Moderate level and have received Authorization to Operate at this level from multiple federal sponsors.
