This collection contains two data files for the 1990 IPEDS Fall Enrollment survey. Part 1, Institutional Characteristics, contains the institutional characteristics data for all institutions by level of study, type and control of institution, affiliation, and offered degrees. Part 2, Enrollment Data by Race/Ethnicity, contains enrollment data by racial and ethnic background.

The codebook for this collection is provided as a Portable Document Format (PDF) file. The Fall Enrollment Survey was sent to the universe of accredited and to all non-accredited institutions offering a bachelor's, master's, doctor's or first-professional degree. Additional enrollment data was collected from the remaining non-accredited institutions via the Consolidated Survey. The Consolidated Survey was sent to all remaining non-accredited 4-year, 2-but-less-than-4-year, and public less-than-2-year institutions and to a sample of private less-than-2-year schools.
All (9,756) postsecondary institutions in operation in 1990 in the United States and its outlying areas.

2003-07-25 ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data.
