The purpose of this study was to collect demographic data on Ph.D. economists employed by the federal government in order to draw conclusions on the diversity of that cohort.

The researchers asked each agency that employs more than a few economists to supply their own data or to confirm data the researchers collected from the Office of Personnel Management's FedScope database.
