Summary

This collection contains the restricted-access data for the article "A Few Bad Apples? Racial Bias in Policing" published in the American Economic Review and supplements the main replication package found in OpenICPSR. These data are a Fast Track Release and are distributed as they were received from the data depositor. The files have been zipped for release, but not checked or processed.

This collection contains the following files:

The following files include geocoded information:

  • utc_05_15_geocode.csv: Dataset of citations geocoded to road segments.
  • basemap_route_road.cpg, basemap_route_road.dbf: Shapefiles of Florida roads used for geocoding. Source,"Basemap Routes with Measures"
  • MT_geocode.mp4: Video walking through the process for geocoding citations.

The following files include personnel information received from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE):

  • agencies.csv: List of police agencies and their identifiers in the FDLE data.
  • basic_exam.csv: Officer scores on basic FDLE exams.
  • complaint.csv: Complaints against officers.
  • employment.csv: Officer employment histories at FDLE-covered agencies.
  • person_data.csv: Officer personnel information such as DOB, gender, race/ethnicity.
  • person_data2.xlsx: Updated version of person_data.csv to include officer education levels.
  • SCRAMBLE.dta: Manually created crosswalk from officer identifiers in the FLDE datasets (person_nbr) to the scrambled officer identifier used in the provided analysis datasets.
  • SCRAMBLE.do: Do-file that created SCRAMBLE.dta
