The dataset is designed for a structural content analysis. Each sentence of each 21st century State of the Union Address (SoTU) is treated as a unique case, complete with identifying information (location within speech, location within 21st century SoTUs, number of words in sentence, total number of sentences in its respective SoTU, total minutes of its respective SoTU, President, and date given). All punctuation, hesitations, and commentary are removed. Plain text SoTU Addresses are scraped directly from the American Presidency Project at the University of California Santa Barbara.
