ICPSR Annual Report: FY22 in Review

The Consortium had a very impactful fiscal year, which included a new partnership with the National Science Foundation to build a new Research Data Ecosystem to help researchers across the gamut of scientific disciplines access, collect, store, and secure vital information. The ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research offered courses in a hybrid format (in-person and online).

Financial Report

ICPSR closed fiscal year 2022 with revenues totaling $20.5 million, representing a 71-percent increase from fiscal year 2021's total. Membership dues income increased 4.4 percent to $4.54 million and contributed 22 percent of the organization's total revenue. Sponsored project awards contributed $12.2 million and accounted for 60 percent of ICPSR's revenue. Summer Program revenue was $1.9 million for fiscal year 2022. ICPSR's overall expenses were $22.3 million, a 26 percent increase from fiscal year 2021. The organization closed fiscal year 2022 with an operating deficit of $1,873,862.  As of June 30, 2022, ICPSR maintained a total fund balance of $9,974,739.

 

 

Conferences

With conferences gradually returning to in-person due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ICPSR was able to attend 7 conferences in FY22, which included:

  • Population Association of America (PAA)
  • Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA)
  • American Educational Research Association (AERA)
  • Society for Prevention Research (SPR)

Summer Program

The 2022 ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research included, at a glance:

  • 57 four-week sessions in person and online
    • 32 workshops
    • 8 lectures
    • 17 Blalock lectures
  • 28 statistical short workshops

The program received 334 applications for scholarships, awarding 72 scholarships sponsored by ICPSR and other organizations.

Research Paper Competition

The ICPSR Research Paper Competition recognizes graduates and undergraduates for standout work on papers on any topic using data from the ICPSR General Archive or Thematic Collections. There were two winners in 2022.
