- As a demographer and sociologist, Dr. Patterson’s research addresses whether and how social norms and family composition influence caregiving behaviors and well-being for family members. She has also studied the role of complex families and kinlessness in the lives of older adults.
- Recently in August, she was awarded a K99/R00 grant from the National Institute on Aging (NIA) to work on understanding how family relationships, attitudes, and caregiving behavior may change in regards to whether or not an older adult has dementia or not.
