NACDA Colectica Portal

We love preserving and sharing data on aging, and with NACDA and ICPSR you get everything you need to perform secondary analysis with whole data files in one place. We wanted to take data sharing a step further to enable data users to create custom data extracts and browse variables across waves, side-by-side, as well as across comparable data collections. We worked with ICPSR staff with knowledge of DDI and with the Colectica team to create a portal to facilitate access to variables from this longitudinal approach, within standardized concepts (or topics), driven by study content at the variable level.

For the data within our NACDA Colectica portal, users can create custom datasets and documents with only the variables they wish to use.

We have organized the data at the variable level to facilitate Cross Series Comparisons, which means data users can explore variables related to cognition, health, and other concepts/topics across different U.S. National research collections (currently available for NSHAP and NHATS, and NSHAP and MIDUS).

Quick points about the NACDA portal:

  • Funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA)
  • The portal requires login credentials separate from your ICPSR MyData account
  • Uses the same terms of use as publicly available ICPSR data and data related materials
  • Provides the ability to download custom datasets in CSV or SPSS formats (currently only available for the NSHAP collection)
  • Data Users may also download custom metadata documentation in CSV, PDF, Excel, or DDI 3 xml
