The Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS) series was designed to provide comprehensive information on various aspects of postsecondary education in the United States and its territories (American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Marshall Islands) and Department of Defense schools outside the United States. Data are available for both public and private two-year and four-year institutions. The HEGIS Fall Enrollment component for 1983 sought enrollment data from 3,330 institutions of higher education. Key data elements, presented for up to 12 record types for each institution (corresponding to the total enrollments summary), include number of full-time and part-time students by class level, sex, and race, as well as total number of students. Additional data include the institutions' type of accreditation and type of calendar system.

The Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS) was designed to provide comprehensive information on various aspects of postsecondary education in the United States and its territories (American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Marshall Islands) and Department of Defense schools outside the United States. The HEGIS Fall Enrollment Component for 1974 sought enrollment data for all public and nonpublic 2- and 4-year institutions and their branches for postbaccalaureate students enrolled for advanced degrees, both graduate and professional. The data cover information on enrollments by class level, number of full-time and part-time male and female students enrolled at various levels (graduate, undergraduate, etc.), sex, race, calendar system, type of accreditation, and enrollments of first-time students. All of these data were acquired in terms of head counts and full-time equivalents, by state.

The Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS) was designed to provide comprehensive information on various aspects of postsecondary education in the United States and its territories (American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Marshall Islands) and Department of Defense schools outside the United States. The HEGIS Basic Student Charges Component for 1982-1983 was distributed as supplement to the HEGIS XVII package to nearly 3,325 institutions of higher education and their branches located in the United States and its outlying areas. This file contains final, edited data for 98 percent of these institutions. Additionally, .6 percent of the 3,265 institutions surveyed were imputed. The data cover information about sex, race, calendar system, type of accreditation, and basic student charges, including graduate and undergraduate tuitions, and room and board charges.
