This data collection is part of a series of nationwide surveys conducted from October 1990 to June 1996 in Spain. The questionnaires for each of these surveys consisted of three sections. The first section collected information on respondents' attitudes regarding personal, national, and international issues, and included questions on respondents' level of life satisfaction and frequency of visits with relatives, neighbors, and friends. The second section contained a topical module of questions that varied from survey to survey, with this survey's topic focusing on attitudes toward immigrants. Among the issues investigated were attitudes toward persons from different immigrant and ethnic groups (e.g., North Africans, Black Africans, South Americans, gypsies, East Europeans, and Asians), and attitudes toward immigration and its perceived effects on the economy and society. Respondents also were queried about friendships and work relationships with persons from different immigrant and ethnic groups, and Spanish migration to other countries. Questions in the third section of the questionnaire elicited socioeconomic information, such as respondent's sex, age, marital status, size of household, occupation, education, religion, religiosity, place of birth, and income.

Citizen Disenchantment in Mexico is a national survey (N=650) carried out in June, 2006, and funded by National Science Foundation Dissertation Improvement Grant Award #0519262 (PI's David Crow and Robert Luskin). The survey's 96 questions gauge citizen definitions of democracy (including a 12-item battery on electoral, liberal, and substantive conceptualizations of democracy) and evaluations of Mexican democracy. It also includes a 15-item battery on migration experiences. The survey is organized into eight sections: (1) Political Participation and Preferences; (2) Political Interest; (3) Migration and Remittances; (4) General Concepts about Democracy; (5) Evaluation of Democracy in Mexico; (6) Support for Democracy; (7) Political Knowledge; and (8) Sociodemographic Data.

This study contains data on conflict events between ethnic, racial, linguistic, and religious minority groups and predominant groups within society in 84 nations in the period 1955-1965. For each event, data are provided for the type of event, number and type of initiator and target of event, nature of minority tension, issues involved, date, location and duration of event, presence of violence, outcome of the event, number of initiators, targets, and mediators injured, arrested, or killed, and number of significant persons involved in the event as initiators, targets, or mediators that were injured, killed, or arrested. A summary scale was developed to measure the different intensity levels of aggressive behavior as well as the degree of friendliness signified by an event in minority tensions.

General Social Survey [United States] and German Social Survey (ALLBUS) Combined Files, 1982 (ICPSR 8365)

As part of a program of crossnational research, a collaboration took place in 1982 between the United States General Social Survey (GSS) and the Zentrum fur Umfragen, Methoden und Analysen (ZUMA) of the Federal Republic of Germany. Funded by the National Science Foundation, this data collection effort explored attitudinal similarities and differences between the two countries on a range of social issues. A common set of questions was included in both the 1982 GSS and the German Social Survey (ALLBUS). These common items included questions on job values, abortion, and subjective social class. The 1982 ALLBUS also contained several GSS items that were not contained in the 1982 GSS, but had been used in other years. Of the 4,497 total cases in the file, the General Social Survey portion contains 1,506 cases and the German Social Survey portion has 2,991 cases.

This study consists of data titled "Degrees and Other Awards Conferred Between July 1, 1981, and June 30, 1982" in institutions of higher education in the United States and its outlying areas. Part of the Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS) XVII series, this survey provides complete data on earned degrees for the nation, the states, and individual institutions, which are widely used by planners and researchers. The collection contains reported data for 3,161 institutions and imputed data for the remaining 36 institutions. Data are provided for professional degrees, baccalaureate and higher degrees, and subbaccalaureate degrees awarded. Additional data specify number of degrees granted by level of degree, institutional control and type, academic disciplines and specialty, student enrollment, and state. Demographic items specify sex and race of recipients.

The universe of this survey consists of 3,294 institutions of higher education in the United States and its outlying areas. The file contains reported data for 2,998 institutions and imputed data for 289 institutions. Students enrolled for the first time at each of the following levels were reported: undergraduate, graduate, first-professional, and unclassified. Variables provide information on enrollment, state of residence, part- and full-time, and transfers.

The Higher Education General Information Survey (HEGIS) was designed to provide comprehensive information on various aspects of postsecondary education in the United States and its territories (American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Marshall Islands) and Department of Defense schools outside the United States. The HEGIS Fall Enrollment Component for 1974 sought enrollment data for all public and nonpublic 2- and 4-year institutions and their branches for postbaccalaureate students enrolled for advanced degrees, both graduate and professional. The data cover information on enrollments by class level, number of full-time and part-time male and female students enrolled at various levels (graduate, undergraduate, etc.), sex, race, calendar system, type of accreditation, and enrollments of first-time students. All of these data were acquired in terms of head counts and full-time equivalents, by state.

This data collection contains information on degrees earned at a sample of postsecondary institutions in the United States. The survey collected data on the number of completions of academic, vocational, and continuing professional educational programs by award category. A major subset of all postsecondary institutions are those institutions that are eligible to participate in Title IV aid. It is this group of institutions that annually receives a Completions Survey. Beginning in 1996, the subset of eligible institutions was validated by matching the IPEDS universe with the Postsecondary Education Participation System (PEPS) file which is maintained by the Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE). OPE grants eligibility to institutions to participate in Title IV federal financial aid programs. This validation process was repeated for determining eligibility, and 6,443 accredited institutions were mailed one of the survey forms. There are four files in the collection. Part 1, Institutional Characteristics, is a comprehensive file pertaining to the characteristics of all the institutions surveyed (i.e., religious affiliation, highest level of offering, enrollment by race/ethnicity, Carnegie classification, etc.). Part 2, Postsecondary Completions: Awards/Degrees Conferred, contains the number of degrees and other awards granted by the institution in each field of study (CIP code), by level of award/degree, and by race/ethnicity and sex of recipient, with totals for full-time and part-time new and continuing students. Part 3, Clarifying Questions, contains responses to the two clarifying questions included in the survey: (1) number of double majors by level of degree and sex of recipient, and (2) number of awards/degrees by branches located in foreign countries, by level of award/degree, and by sex of recipient. Part 4, Postsecondary Completions by Major Discipline (Two-Digit CIP Codes), contains the number of degrees and other awards conferred by major discipline (two-digit CIP code), award level, race/ethnicity, and sex of recipient.

The Fall Enrollment survey is conducted annually by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) as part of the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS). This resulted in lower than accurate figures for the racial/ethnic categories. This website contains information as well as data and documentation files relating to the historical censuses of the United States that make up the Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) disseminated through the Minnesota Population Center at the University of Minnesota. Drawn from original census enumeration forms, the data collections in this series include samples of the American population taken from the censuses of 1850 to 1990 (excluding 1890 and 1930). Data files comprise both individual and household records and include information on a broad range of population characteristics, including fertility, nuptiality, life-course transitions, immigration, internal migration, labor-force participation, occupational structure, education, ethnicity, and household composition. Also available is IPUMS-International, a preliminary database describing 48 million persons in six countries: Colombia, France, Kenya, Mexico, United States, and Vietnam. #MeToo Tweet IDs, October 15-28, 2017 (ICPSR 37447)

This collection of tweet IDs pertains to the first two weeks of the #MeToo hashtag campaign in October 2017. During this time period there were over 1.5 million tweets with the #MeToo hashtag. Tweets containing the hashtag #MeToo were collected retroactively from a full historical Twitter Firehose (100%) collection, and reply threads in response to those tweets were separately collected from Twitter. According to Twitter Terms of Service, full tweet objects cannot be disseminated, but the tweet IDs can be rehydrated through Twitter's public GET statuses/lookup API endpoint.

The available data for this study exist in one zipped folder containing 28 files. There are 14 .csv files, one for each day, between October 15th to October 28th, containing the tweet ID with one tweet ID appearing per line. Each file only contains a single column of data (tweet_id). There were on average 109,237 tweets per day during this two-week period ranging between 16,074 to 528,143 tweets per day. Tweets must have been public and not deleted or taken down at the time of collection in order to appear in this dataset.

The other 14 .csv files correspond to the reply threads for each day in response to tweets containing the hashtag #MeToo. Each line indicates the tweet ID of a reply in a thread of replies to a #MeToo tweet (tweet_id) and the tweet ID of the tweet immediately preceeding that tweet in the reply thread (in_reply_to_tweet_id) as comma-separated values. There were on average 21,072 replies to tweets per day during this period with a range of 2,388 to 110,789 replies per day.

This data collection includes information about the cause of all recorded deaths occurring in the United States, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas during 2000, 2001, and 2002. Data are provided concerning underlying causes of death, multiple conditions that caused the death, place of death, residence of the deceased (e.g., region, division, state, county), whether an autopsy was performed, and the month and day of the week of the death. In addition, data are supplied on the sex, race, age, marital status, education, usual occupation, and origin or descent of the deceased. Mortality detail data can be extracted from this file. The mortality detail records are contained in the first 159 positions of these multiple cause records. In addition to the combined Territory Public-Use file for each year, a subset based on state of occurrence has been created for Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and Northern Marianas. The multiple cause of death fields were coded from the MANUAL OF THE INTERNATIONAL STATISTICAL CLASSIFICATION OF DISEASES AND RELATED HEALTH PROBLEMS, TENTH REVISION (ICD-10), VOLUMES 1, 2, AND 3. This collection provides information on live births in the United States during the calendar year 2001. The natality data in these files are a component of the vital statistics collection effort maintained by the federal government of the United States. Dataset 1 contains data on births occurring within the United States to United States residents and nonresidents, while Dataset 2 includes data on births occurring in the United States territories of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Variables specify place of birth, race and sex of the child, weight at birth and Apgar score, birth order, number of other children born alive or dead, and person in attendance. Medical and health data such as the number of prenatal visits, tobacco and alcohol use during pregnancy, method of delivery, medical risk factors, and infant health characteristics are also provided. Demographic variables include mother's and father's age, race, and ethnicity, as well as the mother's place of birth, marital status, and level of education. Birth and fertility rates, and other statistics related to this study can be found in the National Vital Statistics Report included in the "Original ICPSR Codebook, 2007 Release".

This collection provides information on live births in the United States during calendar year 2002. The natality data in these files are a component of the vital statistics collection effort maintained by the federal government. Part 1, United States File, contains data on births occurring within the United States to United States residents and nonresidents, while Part 2, United States Territories File, contains data on births occurring in the United States territories of Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Geographic variables describing residence for births include the state, county, city, county and city population size, metropolitan statistical area (MSA), primary metropolitan statistical area (PMSA), consolidated metropolitian statistical area (CMSA), New England County metropolitan area (NECMA), and metropolitan/nonmetropolitan county. Other variables include place of delivery, person in attendance, live-birth order, and medical and health data such as the number of prenatal visits, tobacco and alcohol use during pregnancy, method of delivery, medical risk factors, and infant health characteristics. Birth and fertility rates and other statistics related to this study can be found in the National Vital Statistics Report in the codebook documentation. Demographic variables include the child's sex, birthweight, and date of birth, the mother and father's age, race, and ethnicity, as well as the mother's place of birth, marital status, education level, and nation of origin.

Puerto Rico's Padrones, 1779-1802 (ICPSR 30262)

The series consists of 23 annual censuses spanning the years 1779 to 1802, a collection that for its scope and continuity is unique among serial sources of Spanish American colonial history. The padrones were born of a 1776 Royal Order requesting viceroys and executives of Capitanías Generales and Gobernaciones, such as Puerto Rico, to prepare reports on population, broken down by social status, race, and sex. The focus was the civilian population and, therefore, excludes the regular army troops. The series reports the population of Whites, Indians, free Mulattoes, free Blacks, Mulatto slaves and Black slaves for each of 30 partidos in all 23 years (producing a total of 690 observations). Each socio-racial group was subdivided by sex and an ambiguous "age" criterion, which we have interpreted as the difference between dependent (or minor) status and mayoría de edad (adulthood or full age, which in the Spanish American context was 25 years of age). For each group, there are four subdivisions: adult males, adult females, young males, and young females.

Values, Institutional Quality, and Development in Portugal, 2012-2013 (ICPSR 36289)

The purpose of this study was to arrive at an authoritative and nuanced assessment of the functioning and quality of Portuguese institutions through an intensive analysis of organizations and agencies deemed emblematic of the nation's institutional framework. The study selected a sample of organizations of national scope, public and private, that are both intrinsically important and capable of casting light on the character on the broader national institutional universe. Investigators were asked not only to provide historical background and detailed analysis of the internal structure and modes of operation of each organization, but to rank them in a series of strategic dimensions of institutional quality drawn from previous theoretical literature in Economics and Sociology. These topics included meritocracy, proactivity, immunity to corruption, technological flexibility, and fairness. The organizations included in this study are: the Energy Corporation (Energias de Portugal - EDP), the Food and Economic Security Authority (Autoridade de Segurança Alimentar e Económica - ASAE), the Postal System (Correios de Portugal - CTT), the Public Health System (Serviço Nacional de Saúde - SNS; Hospital de Santa Maria), and the Stock Exchange (New York Stock Exchange - Euronext Lisbon - LSE), and the Tax Authority (Autoridade Tributária - AT). Surveys were conducted with personnel of the selected organizations to gauge their general value orientations as well as their attitudes toward the organization itself. Questionnaires were answered anonymously and with full guarantees of confidentiality. Surveys were completed with personnel of five of the six institutions selected for the project; the Tax Authority did not participate. Demographic variables include age, sex, gender, education, occupation, and length of employment.
