This data is part of a retrospective, observational study of patients hospitalized in Washington State and initiated on buprenorphine or Methadone from 05-2019 to 12-2021. Researchers aimed to examine 1) healthcare utilization outcomes (ED visits and hospital readmission) at 30-, 90- and 180-days post-discharge and 2) the associations between baseline MA use and healthcare utilization.

Patients were included in the study sample if they were 18 to 64 years old at the time of being hospitalized. Patients were initiated on methadone or buprenorphine by the addiction medicine consult service between May 2019 and December 2021, were insured by Washington State Medicaid at the time of the hospitalization, and provided self-report information about their past 30-day methamphetamine use in structured interviews completed around the time of MOUD initiation.
