Search for Data

By using keyword search, you’ll be able to find results across studies, variables, publications, and series in the NAHDAP collection.

  • Our search indexes the full documentation for datasets, including descriptions of the variables.
  • You can search for multiple keywords:
    drug use mental health
  • Use quotes to look for a phrase; use the minus sign to remove items from results:
    "drug use" -alcohol
  • All studies are described using terms from the ICPSR Subject Thesaurus; these terms will appear as “Subject” filters on the left side of the results page.

Online Analysis

NAHDAP studies with online analysis allow you to explore and analyze data using the Survey Documentation and Analysis (SDA) system without having to download the data or be familiar with a statistical software package. With SDA, you can:

  • Analyze the data online (i.e., use the data and software from the NAHDAP website so the data and statistical software need not be on the data user’s computer)
  • Perform various types of analyses, including frequencies and crosstabulation, comparison of means, correlation matrix, comparison of correlations, multiple regression, and logit/probit regression
  • Search for variables of interest in a dataset
  • Review frequencies or summary statistics of key variables to determine whether the data have the needed information to conduct more analyses
  • Review frequencies or summary statistics for missing data
  • Produce simple summary statistics for reports
  • Recode and create new variables
  • Subset variables or cases into an SPSS, SAS, Stata, or comma-separated ASCII dataset for download (easy to do even with large data collections and saves time and storage)
  • Export results for use in spreadsheets and presentations
  • Browse online codebooks

Note: The dataset and HTML codebook for use with SDA may not contain the same variables as the dataset and PDF codebook that are downloadable from the study’s home page.

Used Our Data? Submit Your Publications to the ICPSR Bibliography!

ICPSR maintains a Bibliography of Data-related Literature which includes published and unpublished works resulting from the use of ICPSR data. NAHDAP encourages you to submit your publications resulting from the use of our data to the ICPSR Bibliography team at icpsrbibliography@umich.edu.

Please include the titles of the studies used in the publication, the ICPSR study number or study DOI, and a link to the full text of your publication.
