OYS 3GS

An intergenerational longitudinal study that followed the Oregon Youth Study (OYS) males, their partners, and their children. The study contains questions related to parenting, interpersonal behaviors, risk behaviors, and substance use.

  1. The first wave (Time 1) had many different patterns of participation and instrument implementation. Some instruments were used initially and then eventually dropped, while other instruments were added after some families participated. Waves also had complex, multi-visit assessment schedules that some families had difficulty fulfilling. The complexities had resulted in a wide range for the number of participants completing various instruments.

The purpose of this study is to examine intergenerational transmission of antisocial behavior and related problem behaviors.

Partners and children of the OYS men were asked to participate in assessments. Assessments involved two separate appointments at each wave. One assessment were for the mother and child and the other was for the father and child. A third appointment was included in this wave for child development assessment.

Men that were part of the Oregon Youth Study and their partners and children. The children were assessed at 18 months to 2 years.

Longitudinal: Cohort / Event-based

Three Generations offspring of OYS target males and their partners. The children at this wave were assessed at approximately 18 months to 2 years.

Individual, Household

The data contains variables about interpersonal communications, child discipline, substance use, demographics, sex history, crime history, and coder impressions about the respondents.
