Early Steps Multisite Study Series

The Early Steps Multisite (ESM) Study is a randomized controlled trial that evaluates the effectiveness of the early childhood version of the Family Check-Up intervention. This study involved 731 families from three different communities in the United States: Pittsburgh, PA (urban); Eugene, OR (suburban); and in and outside Charlottesville, VA (rural). Families were recruited when children were 2 years old, with assessments continuing annually until children were age 10.5. Families who participated displayed risk factors at the time of recruitment which suggested that these children were at a higher risk of developing future behavioral problems. The data include child-reported information, parent- and teacher-reported information, assessments of children’s skills, and data from observations of parent-child interaction tasks.
