Financial elder exploitation (FE) is an increasing problem for vulnerable elders exploited by opportunists and for the social service and criminal justice system designed to protect them. This study systematically investigated both objective and subjective measures of social support and isolation, along with common risk factors mentioned in FE theories, including dependency, physical health, depression, cognition, and demographic characteristics. Researchers collected data on individual difference variables with an emphasis on cognitive factors and data on contextual factors using an individually administered survey approach. The framework for this project was derived from known factors for FE, predicted protective factors for FE, and conceptual approaches from the child mistreatment literature on risk and resilience.

The study includes 1 SPSS data file with 216 cases and 297 variables.

Master Facility Inventory: Nursing Homes and Other Health Care Facilities, 1976 (ICPSR 7631)

The Master Facility Inventory data collection provides a comprehensive list of nursing, personal care, and domiciliary care facilities in the United States in 1976. The criteria for inclusion were that a facility provided medical, nursing, personal, or custodial care to groups of unrelated persons on an inpatient basis. The survey was conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics in order to update its Master Facility Inventory on the number and kinds of such facilities in the United States and the changes to the list since the last MFI survey. Information gathered is for the previous calendar year and includes facility identification information, ownership and type of facility, capacity and type of beds (i.e., total beds set up and staffed for use and number of beds certified by Medicare or Medicaid as skilled and intermediate), acceptance criteria, and total number of male and female residents (or patients) for 26,748 institutions.

This data collection contains information on United States Area Agencies on Aging and the social services they make available to the elderly through Title XX funding. The units of analysis are the agencies. Variables include agency programs supported by Title XX funding, amount of agency's 1975-1976 and 1976-1977 Title XX allocations, and the agency's involvement with city, county, state, and federal officials. Other items include percent of budget for self-care, in-home, out-of-home, health-related, and institutional services, source of budget, date of establishment, and number of professional positions.
