Summary

This data collection is part of a continuing series of monthly surveys that evaluates the Reagan presidency and solicits opinions on a variety of political and social issues. Topics covered include the national economy, foreign competition, aid to the contras in Nicaragua, the elimination of communism in Central America for the security of the United States, efforts by the Reagan administration to stop the flow of illegal drugs into the country, and international problems such as arms control negotiations, terrorism, and the Palestinian unrest. In addition, respondents were queried about their views on the candidates for the 1988 presidential election. Questions asked of respondents include whether they had a favorable or unfavorable opinion of the various presidential candidates, whom their party should nominate for president and the reasons why, which candidate had the best chance of winning the November election, and which candidate cared most about the needs of people like the respondent. Background information on individuals includes party affiliation, age, union membership, income, sex, religious preference, education, and race.
