This special topic poll consists of responses to a survey of residents in New York City. Respondents were asked whether they approved or disapproved of Mayor Rudolph Giuliani and the manner in which he was handling his job. Specific topics addressed included opinions on how Giuliani treated the needs of Blacks, whites, and Hispanics, and Giuliani's proposed budgets for various city agencies. Other questions elicited opinions on Mario Cuomo, Ramon Cortines, and the problems of the New York City public schools. Respondents were also asked specific questions on the New York City police and the quality of protection they provided, and how they felt about the homeless, crime, homosexuality, and vandalism. Background information on respondents includes voter registration status, household composition, political orientation, education, religious preference, and family income.
