Summary View help for Summary
The purpose of College and Beyond II (CBII) is to better understand how students' undergraduate experiences in and out of the classroom relate to their long-run development. The College and Beyond II Administrative Data contains administrative student records obtained for nearly all bachelors-seeking undergraduate students at 19 postsecondary institutions representing 7 postsecondary system in the United States from approximately 2000 to 2021. Partner colleges provided information on demographics (race, gender), family background, entry term, degree term, college major, admissions test scores, term-by-term information on majors, credits, and grades, and information on all courses taken.
Students' administrative data can be linked to other data in the CBII series. Students are linked across studies in the series by a unique anonymized person identifier. Colleges are linked across studies in the series by a unique anonymized college identifier. Files are organized by the postsecondary system they are a part of and can be linked by a unique anonymized system identifier.

The study aimed to collect detailed quantitative longitudinal information about undergraduate students and their experiences in several domains:
- Demographics and family background: gender, race/ethnicity, parent education, family income, citizenship, permanent address zip code, high school state, high school code, residency
- Academic background and preparation: ACT/SAT score, high school GPA, transfer student status, transfer credits, AP tests, and scores
- Extracurricular and co-curricular activities: greek participation, intercollegiate athletics, residential college, study abroad
- Final academic outcomes: degree date, major(s) field of study, cumulative GPA, cumulative credits, honors
- Term-level outcomes: credits attempted, credits earned, term GPA, cumulative GPA, declared major, college of enrollment
- Courses taken and outcomes: subject, number, title, credits, letter grade, course type, meeting day/time
Such data could be used to investigate a number of different types of questions about students' postsecondary paths and success. When combined with other data in the CBII Series, the Administrative Data can be used to examine the long-term consequences of undergraduate experiences.

Description of Variables View help for Description of Variables
Variables include demographics (race, gender), family background, entry term, degree term, college major, admissions test scores, term-by-term information on majors, credits, and grades, and information on all courses taken. Variables in the Student file are measured at one point in time (often either at college application or degree completion). Variables in the Term file are measured for each term a student took, and variables in the Course file are measured for each course a student took.
