On June 8, 2020, the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) launched a survey designed to capture a snapshot of the state of US museums during the initial wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. By the time the survey closed on June 30, directors of 760 museums of all types and sizes had reported on their plans for reopening, the projected financial impact of the pandemic, and the services they were providing to their communities. The American Alliance of Museums (AAM) has been bringing museums together since 1906, helping to develop standards and best practices, gathering and sharing knowledge, and providing advocacy on issues of concern to the entire museum community. Representing more than 35,000 individual museum professionals and volunteers, institutions, and corporate partners serving the museum field, the Alliance stands for the broad scope of the museum community.
