This survey was conducted as part of an evaluation of New Careers in Nursing (NCIN), a national scholarship program of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation for nursing students from underrepresented groups in nursing or from disadvantaged backgrounds. It was founded in 2008 to help alleviate the nursing shortage, increase the diversity of nursing professionals, expand capacity in baccalaureate and graduate nursing programs, and enhance the pipeline of potential nurse faculty. The survey explored NCIN alumni employment in nursing, career aspirations and advanced education after they graduated from their nursing degree program. Additionally, respondents were asked to rate various aspects of their nursing degree program. Other topics covered by the survey include leadership and mentoring experiences, the reputation of NCIN among employers, student loans and alumni demographics.

ICPSR restricted the data file from general dissemination for reasons of confidentiality. Users interested in obtaining the restricted data must complete an Agreement for the Use of Confidential Data, specify the reasons for the request, and obtain IRB approval or notice of exemption for their research. The survey attempted to interview all NCIN alumni who graduated before the cut-off date.
Universe View help for Universe
Alumni of New Careers in Nursing (NCIN) scholars who graduated prior to September 2012. The September cut-off date was selected so that respondents would have at least six months of post-degree experiences to report by the time the survey was launched. Altogether, there were 1,682 NCIN alumni representing 97 schools of nursing who graduated before the cut-off date.

2016-12-14 Removed magic number (file signature) from SPSS setup file.
2016-12-07 ICPSR data undergo a confidentiality review and are altered when necessary to limit the risk of disclosure. ICPSR also routinely creates ready-to-go data files along with setups in the major statistical software formats as well as standard codebooks to accompany the data. In addition to these procedures, ICPSR performed the following processing steps for this data collection:
