This dataset contains a listing of all local agencies providing free public elementary and secondary schools in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and outlying areas (American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Marshall Islands) in fall 1976. Researchers can use the collection to draw statistically valid samples from which state or national estimates can be made. The file also provides a mailing list of school systems. Variables include name, address, county, district, grade span of school, size of system, number of schools in the system, and SMSA (Standard Metropolitan Statistical Area) designation.
