Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics Series

The Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics (PSED) research program was designed to augment the scientific understanding of how people start businesses. PSED I is based on a nationally representative sample of nascent entrepreneurs, and began screening in 1998-2000 to identify a cohort of 830 with three follow-up interviews. The screening for PSED II began in 2005-2006, followed by six yearly interviews.

Data collected includes information on the proportion and characteristics of those attempting to start new businesses, the activities nascent entrepreneurs undertake during the business start-up process, and the proportion and characteristics of the start-up efforts that become new firms.
