Agrarian Typology of Provinces of European Russia at the Turn of the 20th Century (ICPSR 8380)

This collection consists of data describing agricultural organization, production, and land management in 50 provinces of European Russia at the turn of the century. Data are derived from the first universal Russian census of population (1897), statistics on landowners (1905), and the Cavalry Censuses of 1896 and 1899-1900. The agricultural model is presented in terms of the number of agricultural workers per place of employment, land allotment per capita, ratio of land leased to peasants to investment property, per capita collection of crops and sown area, productivity of livestock, and cost of land and crops.

The Public Use Sample is a representative sample of individual records from the 1971 Census of Canada Master File. The primary sample size is one-in-one-hundred and the sample is self-weighting. Data from the long-form questionnaire, or one-third sample, were used to create these microdata files. To preserve confidentiality, respondents were selected from nine provinces and two Census Metropolitan Areas (CMA) with populations of 250,000 or more. The provinces are Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. The CMAs are Montreal and Toronto. There are six data files in this collection. For each of the two geographic categories, province and CMA, there are three data files organized by record type: Household, Family, and Individual. Parts 1 and 2, the Household Files, contain the age, sex, birthplace, marital status, educational attainment, income, occupation, and employment status of the household head, as well as the number of people living in the household. There is also information on the physical housing characteristics, such as number of rooms and bedrooms, type of cooking and heating fuel used, and rent and/or mortgage amounts. Parts 3 and 4, the Family Files, contain the age, race, language, migration status, religion, educational attainment, employment, income, and occupation of the household head and wife, and number and ages of children in school or not in school. Parts 5 and 6, the Individual Files, contain detailed information on the household residents including age, sex, birthplace, marital status, educational attainment, residential history, income, occupation, and employment status. These two files also contain some information on housing characteristics.

This data collection is comprised of a one-in-one-hundred sample of persons who completed the long-form census questionnaire (the one-third sample) for the 1976 Census of Canada. To preserve confidentiality, records for this study were selected from geographic areas with populations of 250,000 or more, including Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, the Montreal census enumeration area, Quebec, the Toronto census enumeration area, Ontario (excluding Toronto), Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, the Vancouver census enumeration area, and British Columbia (excluding Vancouver). The data have been organized into three separate files by record type: Household, Family, and Individual. Part 1, Household File, contains information on the age, marital status, number, and primary language of household occupants. Part 2, Family File, contains information on age, educational level, languages spoken, children, and population size of place of residence of the husband and wife (or lone parent). Part 3, Individual File, contains detailed information about individual household residents including educational attainment, marital status, employment status, household relationship, language, and sex.

The Army Map Service was a cartographic agency that focused on the compilation, publication, and distribution of military topographic maps. This collection contains georeferenced historical maps of India and Pakistan collected from 1955-1963 from the U502 series.
The maps are provided as TIFF files that include spatial references that can be read by GIS software. These maps are organized by segments which are then divided into square tiles. The corners of each of these tiles contain an anchor point with corresponding coordinates alongside additional anchor points like a: coastal region, legend, glossary, scale, and a location diagram.

State Farms in European Russia, 1917: Districts and Provinces (ICPSR 8377)

This data collection aggregates district- and province-level data from the All-Russian Agricultural and Land Census of 1917 to provide indicators of farm management, production, and consumption in revolutionary European Russia. Information is provided on two models of collective land management and agricultural organization that existed in European Russia between the revolutions of 1905 and 1917. The data allow for analysis of agricultural organization and resource allocation in both private and state enterprises. The study is available in two parts. Part 1, Province Level, contains data on 21 provinces only. Part 2, District Level, contains information on 332 districts and 37 provinces. Districts comprising the provinces in Part 1 are also contained in Part 2. Information is provided on the same 26 variables in both parts. The variables include the portion of privately-owned farms with unsown areas for crops, the portion of privately-owned farms without any livestock, the portion of privately-owned farms without working livestock, the portion of privately owned farms with land for rent, the number of hired workers on the farms with land for rent, the amount of arable land on one property (measured in desyatina, which is roughly equal to 2.7 acres), the amount of sown area on one property (in desyatina), the amount of ploughed field on one property, the quantity of hired labor on one property, the quantity of working livestock on one property, the quantity of productive livestock on one property, the number of ploughs per farm property, the number of farming-related working tools on one property, the number of hired workers per desyatin of sown land, the number of working livestock per desyatin of sown land, the number of productive livestock per desyatin of sown land, the number of ploughs per desyatin of sown land, the number of farming-related working tools per desyatin of sown land, the share of ploughs per privately-owned, arable landholdings, the portion of hayfields per privately-owned, arable landholdings, the portion of forested area per privately-owned, arable landholdings, the portion of sown area per privately-owned, arable landholdings, the portion of privately-owned crops in the entire sown area, the portion of privately-owned, arable land in the total area of arable land, the percentage of privately-owned sown area tilled at own expense, and the share of sown grassland in the entire sown area under private ownership.
