The purpose of this study was to examine the dose of incarceration and subsequent psychiatric and psychosocial functioning in 1,829 justice-involved youths in Chicago, Illinois 16 years after detention.

This study is part of the Seek, Test, Treat and Retain (STTR) Collaboration Project that involved over twenty studies in the fields of HIV and drug abuse. All studies were independently developed, but were chosen for the collaboration because they focused on one or more steps of the HIV treatment cascade: Seek, Test, Treat and Retain. As part of STTR Collaboration Project, the studies were grouped into Criminal Justice-related studies and Vulnerable Population-related studies. The data collected by these studies included twelve common domains (e.g., Demographic characteristics, Mental Health) in each of which a shared questionnaire or instrument was taken up by the studies and adapted to fit the study.
The data in this study focuses on adult respondents that were detained in Illinois prison or jails.

Data and Code for: Halfway Home? Residential Housing and Reincarceration (ICPSR 191668)

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people are released from prison. For many, the transition back to society includes a mandatory stay in residential housing. In this research, I estimate the effect of residential housing on reincarceration using administrative data from Iowa. I address selection into residential housing by instrumenting for residential housing assignment with the rate at which randomly assigned case managers recommend it. I find no evidence that Iowa's costly investment in residential housing results in reduced reincarceration rates relative to parole. Instead, assignment to residential housing accelerates the timing of reincarceration. I go on to show that residential housing increases reincarceration due to violent crimes and technical violations. This is partially offset by decreases in drug and public order crimes.

The Prison Agriculture Lab at Colorado State University compiled a first-of-a-kind nationwide data set tracking prison agriculture in the United States. The data set identifies 1101 adult state-operated prisons, including 662 adult state-operated prisons with some type of crops and silviculture; horticulture and landscaping; animal agriculture; and/or food processing and production. These four types of agriculture are further broken down into subtypes, which are more detailed descriptions of an agricultural activity. The data set furthermore entails details on the specific drivers of agriculture, which are the goals or justifications for agriculture at each prison provided by prison authorities. The drivers are broadly classified into financial, idleness reduction, training, or reparative driver groups. Data covers all 50 states and was collected between 2019-2022 by speaking with prison authorities and by scraping official government and agency reports and websites. To enrich the geospatial aspects of this data set, the prison agriculture data provides a key to link with Homeland Infrastructure Foundation-Level prison boundaries data from 2020.

This dataset attempts to be a comprehensive listing of all pardons granted by United States' Presidents from Washington to Trump. The only president not represented in the data is the 20th president, President James A. Garfield. In total, the dataset contains 77 variables and 32,026 cases. About half of the variables are in character (string) format some of which contain actual dates. The original data was provided in individual Excel files separated by president and by term. Not all variables in the final data file were provided in each original data file.
The data includes variables that provide the recipient's name of the pardon, the date the pardon was granted, the offense committed, details regarding fines and prison stays, along with other details regarding the recipient.
