This data collection is part of a continuing series of monthly surveys that evaluates the Reagan presidency and solicits opinions on a variety of political and social issues. Topics covered include nuclear arms treaties between the United States and the Soviet Union, the constitutional amendment requiring the federal government to balance its budget, the law requiring companies to give workers 60 days notice of plant closings, attention paid to the Democratic National Convention, the Equal Rights Amendment, organized prayer in public schools, and federal money spent on AIDS education. In addition, respondents were queried about their views on the candidates and campaigns for the 1988 presidential election. Questions asked of respondents include whether they had a favorable or unfavorable opinion of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, whether Bush or Dukakis would be more competent at managing the federal government and whether the respondent had any worries about electing either as president, whether Jesse Jackson should have a major role in the Democratic presidential campaign, and whether George Bush was hiding something the public should know concerning the Iran-Contra affair. Background information on individuals includes party affiliation, age, union membership, income, sex, religious preference, education, and race.

This data collection focuses on the responsibilities of the United States federal government and various governmental assistance programs. Survey respondents were asked if the government should retrain those who have lost their jobs due to industry shutdowns, if government programs in the 1960s improved conditions for the poor, and if the respondent had needed government assistance in the form of a business loan, Social Security, or housing. Respondents also were asked if the federal government should be responsible for such things as helping people pay for college tuition and day care, requiring employers to provide health care for their employees, and helping people pay for nursing homes or other long-term care. Additional topics covered were the respondent's financial situation, college enrollment, home ownership, and mortgages. Background information on individuals includes party affiliation, age, marital status, sex, education, race, and income.

This poll is part of a continuing series of monthly surveys that solicit public opinion on the presidency and on a range of other political and social issues. Questions were posed regarding respondents' vote intentions for the 1992 presidential election, their opinions of the 1992 presidential candidates, and the likelihood of their voting in the 1992 presidential election. Items relating to George Bush and Bill Clinton dealt with their ability to deal with an international crisis, their ideas to end the recession, their moral values, their ability to deal with problems, and their areas of concentration during the campaign. Those surveyed also assessed Bush's handling of the presidency, foreign policy, the situation in Iraq, and the economy. In addition, respondents gave their opinions of Ronald Reagan, Ross Perot, Hillary Clinton, and Barbara Bush. Other questions focused on the situation in Yugoslavia, the national economy, pornography, abortion, the United States House of Representatives election, the candidates for vice president, Ronald Reagan, and Jimmy Carter. Background information on respondents includes sex, age, race, marital status, education, religious preference, family income, political orientation, and party preference.

This data collection is part of a continuing series of monthly surveys that evaluates the Reagan presidency and solicits opinions on a variety of political and social issues. Topics covered include important problems facing the country, the economy, foreign affairs, United States relations with the Soviet Union, nuclear weapons policy, and a federal law requiring businesses to give workers 60-day advance notice of factory closings. In addition, respondents were queried as to which party had the best chance of winning the presidency in November, how closely the respondent was following the race, which candidate the respondent would vote for among several possible tickets if the election were held that day, what the respondent liked and disliked most about the candidates, and if the respondent had a favorable or unfavorable impression of various public figures. Respondents also were asked a detailed series of questions comparing the two candidates George Bush and Michael Dukakis, and another set of questions relating to Nancy Reagan's influence and her reported use of the advice of an astrologer. Background information on respondents includes political alignment, 1984 presidential vote choice, sex, education, age, religion, marital status, household composition, labor union membership, employment status, race, income, and state/region of residence.
