This poll, fielded February, 2012, and the last of two, is part of a continuing series of monthly surveys that solicits public opinion on a range of political and social issues. Respondents were asked whether things in the country were on the right track, whether they supported the Tea Party, and for their opinions on gasoline prices. Information was collected on respondent's frequency of purchases with credit cards or cash, family finances, preferences for small business or chain store shopping, buying products made in the United States, and opinions on price vs. quality of products and services. Also, a variety of pop culture topics were addressed, including but not limited to, clothing preferences, personal electronic devices, profane language on broadcast television, and opinions on hypothetical scenarios. Demographic variables include sex, age, race, education level, household income, employment status, religious preference and participation, type of residential area (e.g., urban or rural), whether respondents thought of themselves as born-again Christians, marital status, household composition, political party affiliation, political philosophy, voter registration status, voting behavior, whether they served in the armed forces, and the number of phones in their household.

This poll, conducted May 30-June 7, 2006, is part of a continuing series of monthly surveys that solicit public opinion on the presidency and on a range of other political and social issues. Respondents aged 13 to 24 were asked to give their opinions on the most important problem young people face, on the environment, on global warming, and on MTV's involvement in promoting environmental issues. Respondents were also asked about their cell phone and Internet usage, as well as their television viewing habits. Additional questions addressed homosexuality, racial diversity in the respondents' school, and race relations. Background information on respondents includes military service, voter registration status, party identification, sex, religious affiliation, education record, age, and ethnicity.

This survey, fielded May 2-3, 2011, is part of a continuing series of monthly surveys that solicits public opinion on a range of political and social issues. Respondents were asked for their opinions of political figures President Barack Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama, Tim Pawlenty, Sarah Palin, Donald Trump, Oprah Winfrey, and members of the British royal family: Prince Charles and Lady Camilla. Respondents were also asked their opinions about the following issues: United States troops in Afghanistan, gas prices, abortion, the American Civil War, Guantanamo Bay detention camp, Islam, and the Tea Party movement. Additional topics included personal happiness, home furnishings and decor, the effects of positive thinking, being a mother, the economic gap, plans for Memorial Day weekend, movies, Donald Trump's wealth, celebrities, prosecuting athletes for cheating, air travel, the Internet, new electronics, lying about one's age, and graffiti. Respondents were asked further background questions about whether they approved of the way President Obama was handling the presidency, including foreign policy, the economy, and the war in Afghanistan. Opinions were sought on how Osama bin Laden's death affected terrorism and respondents' personal security, the war on terror, and the mission in Afghanistan. Respondents were also asked if they were proud to be an American, whether they had a close family member or friend or knew anyone who died in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, or had a family member in the armed forces. Demographic information includes sex, age, race, education level, household income, marital status, religious preference, employment status, type of residential area (e.g., urban or rural), state of residence, type of phone(s), number of phones, political party affiliation, political philosophy, voting behavior, and whether the respondent is an evangelical or a born-again Christian.

Center for Research on Social Reality [Spain] Survey, December 1992: Mass Media (ICPSR 6060)

This data collection is part of a continuing series of semi-monthly surveys of individuals in Spain. Each survey consists of three sections. The first section collects information on respondents' attitudes regarding personal and national issues. This section includes questions on level of life satisfaction and frequency of relationships, as well as a rating of the importance of national issues. The second section varies according to the monthly topic, with this month's topic focusing on mass media. This section includes an inventory of the respondent's media-related household appliances, such as television sets, stereo equipment, and video cassette recorders. Among the issues investigated are the frequency and amount of time spent watching television, listening to radio, reading newspapers, magazines, and books, and attending concert and theater events. Information is also provided on respondents' preferences in programming or content and whether different media are experienced alone, in the company of others, or in conjunction with some other activity. In addition, the respondents' attitudes toward mass media in general and the perceived consequences on daily life are measured. The third section collects demographic data such as sex, age, religion, income, and place of residence.

Compilation of Middletown III and Middletown IV Data, 1977-1999 [Muncie, Indiana] (ICPSR 4604)

Middletown III was a replication of research done in 1924-1925 by Robert and Helen Lynd in Muncie, Indiana. Middletown III included the Family Roles Survey (1977), the High School Survey (1977, 1989), the Community Survey (1978), the Government Services Survey (1978), the Kinship Survey (1978), the Neighborhood Survey (1978), the Religion Survey (1978), the Women's Occupational Survey (1978), and the Recreation Survey (1982). Middletown IV was a 1999 replication of two of the most important surveys that had been conducted in 1924 and 1977: the Community Survey and the High School Survey. The High School Survey (1977, 1989, and 1999) queried respondents about the number of years they attended Muncie schools, membership in extra-curricular activities, sex education, curriculum, grades and schoolwork, books and magazines read that were not assigned, and future plans post-high school. Respondents were also asked about close friendships, work outside of school, activities on Sunday, and their opinions about their relationship with their parents, and several statements about personal, political, and social issues. For the Community Survey (1978, 1999), respondents were asked about their residence and living in Muncie, as well as job history, reasons to work, and the advantages gained from working. The survey also asked questions of respondents about spouse employment and vacation, household roles, activities, and expenses, as well as close friendships, important qualities in boys and girls, educational plans for their children, and opinions on special topics. For the Family Roles Survey (1978), respondents were asked to express their opinion in regard to raising a family in Muncie, spouse role performance and expectations, marital satisfaction, and close friendships. The Government Services Survey (1978) asked respondents about their participation in the 1976 presidential, 1974 Indiana congressional, and 1975 Muncie city elections, service in the armed forces, and housing. In addition, the survey asked respondents for their opinion in regard to unemployed citizens, welfare, the Muncie community, and government programs, as well as their awareness or use of certain programs. The Kinship Survey (1978) asked respondents to identify where and how long they lived at a location in relationship to Muncie. In addition, respondents were asked for demographic information about their spouse, mother and father (their own and their spouse's), siblings, cousins, and children, their relationship and interactions with them, including their participation in different types of activities together, giving or receiving of goods or services, and frequency of communication. The Neighborhood Survey (1978), queried respondents about their residence in a Muncie neighborhood and their intent to remain at or move from this location. Opinions were sought about the neighborhood and particular facilities visited, attended, or used most often. Respondents were also asked to identify whether relatives or friends lived in Muncie, the location of their residence, as well as their spouses' work location. Respondents scored their interactions with their closest relative, and identified relationships with friends and work associates. In the Religion Survey (1978), respondents provided information about their participation in political elections, what activities they enjoy, as well as their opinion in regard to quality of life, marital satisfaction, racial inequality, women's liberation, and their response when encountering a problem. In addition, respondents were asked about their religious behavior and philosophies, including practices such as prayer, fasting, and the teaching and study of different religions. For the Women's Occupational Survey (1978), respondents were queried about their views in regard to quality of life and marriage including number of times and age married, the status of the marriage, number of children born in each marriage, marital satisfaction, relationship with spouse, causes of disagreement with spouse, and household roles. Pertaining to occupation, respondents answered questions about job training and requirements, job satisfaction, and job discrimination. They also provided their opinions about how work had affected their relationships with their children and spouse. For the Recreation Survey (1982), respondents were queried about attending professional events, participating in sports and household activities, visiting particular recreational locations, owning recreational, electronic, or entertainment equipment, and playing a musical instrument. In addition, the survey posed questions about membership in a group or organization, vacations, religious behaviors, and books or magazines read. Respondents also provided their opinion about gender attributes pertaining to societal roles. Major demographic themes that may appear in one or more of the surveys include age, gender, race, birthplace, occupation and employment, income, social class, education, marital status, religious preference, number of friends or relatives in the city, number and ages of children or siblings, and household composition, as well as the topic of organizational memberships, political affiliation, time spent per day watching movies or television, and number of newspaper or magazine subscriptions. For the Community Survey (1978, 1999), Kinship Survey (1978), Neighborhood Survey (1978), and Women's Occupational Survey (1978), in addition to occupation, the data may also include Duncan Socioeconomic Index (SEI), Siegel Prestige, or industry classification codes.

This round of Eurobarometer surveys diverged from the Standard Eurobarometer measures and queried respondents on the following major areas of focus: (1) social reality, (2) e-communications, (3) Common Agricultural Policy, (4) discrimination and the media, and (5) medical research. For the first area of focus, a sequence of questions covered a broad spectrum in terms of social reality, asking the respondents to evaluate their life and job satisfaction, work environment, confidence in their job skills, ability to keep or find a job, and what they expected would happen to their jobs in the near future, e.g., promotion, job loss, relocation, and pensions. Respondents were then asked their opinions on the effectiveness of social welfare, which social issues they considered most important, whether they had or wanted children, how the presence of minority groups affect their countries in a cultural and economic sense, and what necessities are required in order to get ahead in life. The second major focus called for respondents to provide information on the availability, or lack there of, of each of these communication systems: television, fixed telephone, mobile phones, and Internet in their household. Respondents were asked to share reasons why they owned or did not own certain systems, including telecommunication bundles, and to explain how accessible the systems were to their household. Respondents also were asked to assess the performance of each system, to share their expectations as consumers, and to rate the effectiveness of their service providers and the available features (e.g., personal data protection, costs, tariffs, and flexibility with account changes). Respondents indicated, from lists of service providers included in the survey, the specific provider they used for each communication system they used. Respondents answered additional questions about viruses and spam, and how they dealt with such issues, as well as their knowledge of the phone numbers to contact in case of emergencies. Only one question was asked in the next topic as respondents were shown a European label and asked what it symbolized. For the third major area of focus, the survey asked respondents about their knowledge of and their interest in learning about the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Respondents also were asked their opinions on the importance of agriculture and rural development in their countries, what the European Union's (EU) main priorities should be in terms of CAP, and the effectiveness of its role in policy development. Respondents were further asked if the EU's reduction of the subsidy for farmers was justified if farmers failed to attend to their responsibilities and rules of policy, and whether the current amount of budgeting for agriculture was adequate. The fourth major topic focused on people's opinions about discrimination and the media. Respondents were requested to assess the importance of the media's role in combating discrimination and the particular actions the media may use to do this. The survey further asked respondents how they felt about viewing people of different ethnic origins on television, and the media's use of ethnic origin or religious affiliation when discussing people. Also, respondents shared whether they believed the media contributed to the creation of ethnic tensions between different communities. For the fifth and final topic, the survey queried respondents about their knowledge of and interest in scientific research, their access to information on science and subjects of interest (e.g., exhibitions, lectures, professors, doctors, family, and periodicals), and whether they were aware of the projects funded by the EU. Demographic and other background information include respondent's age, gender, nationality, origin of birth (personal and parental), marital status, left-to-right political self-placement, occupation, age when stopped full-time education, household composition, and ownership of a fixed or a mobile telephone and other durable goods. In addition, country-specific data include the type and size of locality, region of residence, and language of interview (select countries).

This round of Eurobarometer surveys diverged from the Standard Eurobarometer measures and queried respondents on the following major areas of focus: (1) European Union policy and decision-making, (2) corruption, (3) civil justice, (4) e-communications, (5) agriculture, and (6) environmental protection. For the first major focus, European Union (EU) policy and decision-making, respondents were queried about whether more or less decision-making should take place at the EU level in regards to the following topics: asylum and migration policy, exchange of police and judicial information between member states, the fight against drug abuse, the control of external borders of the EU, the fight against terrorism, and the promotion and protection of fundamental rights, including children's rights. Of these, respondents were asked which topics they thought should be the three priorities of the EU, which topics they felt well informed on, and which topics they would like to be better informed. For the second major focus, corruption, respondents were asked whether they agreed that corruption is a major problem in their country and a major problem in local, regional, national, and EU institutions. They also answered questions regarding how widespread they thought bribery and abuse of power were, if in the last 12 months they had been asked or expected to pay a bribe for services, whether they agreed that most corruption is caused by organized crime, and whose responsibility it is to prevent and fight corruption. For the third major focus, civil justice, respondents were asked if they had ever been involved in civil justice procedures in another EU member state, and what their opinion was about the ease of accessing civil justice outside of their own country. Respondents were also asked if additional measures should be taken to assist in access to civil justice in another EU member state, what their main concerns were about the procedures, and their preference for contract terms in purchasing products in other EU member states. In addition, respondents were queried about whether there should be uniform procedures in the EU for civil and commercial claims, if rulings made in one member state should freely apply in another member state, the main difficulties in enforcing rulings in another member state, if the EU should intervene in the enforcement of civil court rulings between member states, and the usefulness of having access to civil justice in another member state via the Internet. For the fourth major focus, e-communications, respondents provided information on the availability within their own households of each of the following communication systems: television, fixed telephone, mobile phones, and the Internet. Respondents were asked to identify reasons why they owned or did not own certain systems, including television, fixed/mobile phones, and telecommunication bundles, the accessibility of these systems in their household, their use of public payphones and telephone directories, and their knowledge of emergency service numbers. In addition, respondents assessed the performance of each system, shared their expectations as consumers, and rated the effectiveness of their service providers and available features of the systems (e.g., costs, tariffs, and flexibility with account changes). For the fifth major focus, agriculture, respondents shared their opinions about the importance of agriculture in the EU, their knowledge of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), whether they wanted more information about CAP, and from what sources they would gather that information. The survey also asked what should be the main priorities of the EU in terms of CAP, how well CAP fulfills its role, and what the main responsibilities of farmers should be. Respondents were further questioned in regard to the EU's reduction of the subsidy for farmers, what their opinions were about trade barriers, and whether the current amount of budgeting for agriculture was adequate. In addition, respondents were queried about the best way to evaluate progress in environmental protection, the comparison of environmental protection versus economic competitiveness, personal efforts to protect the environment, what should be the priorities of citizens in daily life, and how environmental decisions should be made by government and by public authorities. Further questions included what the most effective way to tackle environmental problems should be, whether an EU civil protection force should be set up, and their opinions about the labeling of environmentally friendly products and the use of genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The Eurobarometer series is a unique cross-national and cross-temporal survey program conducted on behalf of the European Commission. These surveys regularly monitor public opinion in the European Union (EU) member countries and consist of standard modules and special topic modules. The standard modules address attitudes towards European unification, institutions and policies, measurements for general socio-political orientations, as well as respondent and household demographics. The special topic modules address such topics as agriculture, education, natural environment and resources, public health, public safety and crime, and science and technology.

This round of Eurobarometer surveys covers the following special topics: (1) The Future of Europe and (2) E-Communications in the Household. Respondents' opinions were collected regarding the state of the European Union, what important issues it currently faced, what they felt were the biggest assets of the EU, and how it should address global changes. Respondents were also questioned about ownership and use of communication devices such as mobile phones and computers. They were asked how these devices were provided with internet service, their data use and limits, difficulties with internet access, whether they had experienced blocking of content online, and the costs associated with internet service.

Demographic and other background information collected includes age, gender, nationality, marital status, occupation, age when stopped full-time education, household composition, ownership of a fixed or mobile telephone and other goods, difficulties in paying bills, level in society, and Internet use. In addition, country-specific data includes type and size of locality, region of residence, and language of interview (select countries).

Personal Interview Transcripts for Research on Exploring Citizen Perspectives on Electronic Government-Citizen Relationships, January-May 2005 (ICPSR 20201)

Citizens already engaged in online activities are more inclined to connect with their governments electronically. One question that has largely gone unanswered is: Does citizens' use of the Internet to interact with governments facilitate relationships between them and their governments? This key issue for e-governance is under-researched, so this survey explored the perspectives of citizens from a Queensland, Australia city through qualitative interviews. Findings indicate that citizens trust the e-government process, but not their governments. The data for this study is comprised of transcripts of each respondent's answers to a series of questions. Quantitative survey research is needed to confirm these results, which are important both for relationship theory, governments, and citizens.

These data are part of NACJD's Fast Track Release and are distributed as they were received from the data depositor. The files have been zipped by NACJD for release, but not checked or processed except for the removal of direct identifiers. Product counterfeiting is the fraudulent reproduction of trademark, copyright, or other intellectual property related to tangible products without the authorization of the producer and motivated by the desire for profit. This study create a Product Counterfeiting Database (PCD) by assessing multiple units of analysis associated with counterfeiting crimes from 2000-2015: (1) scheme; (2) offender (individual); (3) offender (business); (4) victim (consumer); and (5) victim (trademark owner). Unique identification numbers link records for each unit of analysis in a relational database.
