Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) Freshman Survey, Community Colleges, United States, 1995-2007 (ICPSR 39778)
This study provides data about the experiences of students at community colleges that participated in the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) Freshman Survey between 1995 and 2007. Since 1966, the CIRP Freshman Survey has provided data on incoming college students' background characteristics, high school experiences, attitudes, behaviors, and expectations for college. The survey resides at the Higher Education Research Institute (HERI) at the University of California-Los Angeles. Information about the history and administration of the Freshman Survey can be found on the HERI website.
Community colleges in this study were identified using Carnegie Classifications. The data include responses from 95,646 students at 106 institutions. Additional Freshman Survey data are available as studies in the Cooperative Institutional Research Program (CIRP) Series.
Accelerating Recovery in Community Colleges Network Lead: Survey of Pandemic Relief Spending and Recovery Strategies, United States, 2020-2023 (ICPSR 39258)
In order to assist higher education institutions and their students during the pandemic, the federal government established the Higher Education Emergency Relief (HEER) fund, which directed over $75 billion to institutions of higher education - including nearly $25 billion to community colleges - over a three-year period. Researchers at the Community College Research Center (CCRC), the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC), and Wheelhouse: The Center for Community College Leadership and Research at the University of California, Davis (Wheelhouse) partnered through the Accelerating Recovery in Community Colleges (ARCC) Network to understand how community colleges used HEER funds to support their students and institutions during the pandemic.
This data collection contains responses from a survey of 170 community colleges across six states: California, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Tennessee, and Texas. This institutional survey of pandemic relief spending and recovery strategies attempted to answer the following research questions:
- How did colleges use HEER student and institutional aid?
- How did colleges target specific populations for HEER-funded student supports?
- What do colleges' expenditure patterns reveal about how student and institutional needs changed over time?
- How successful did colleges perceive HEER funds to be in meeting student and institutional needs during the pandemic?
- What do colleges' concerns about the end of HEER funds reveal about how to prioritize future funding efforts?
- In what ways did colleges' experiences with HEER funds vary based on institutional characteristics?
The resulting dataset provides insight into the specific pandemic recovery activities colleges implemented, colleges' perceptions of how successful funds were in addressing student and institutional needs during the pandemic, and what institutional needs were not met by aid.
Assessing the Implementation and Cost of High Quality Early Care and Education Project (ICHQ) Field Test, United States, 2021 (ICPSR 38949)
Mathematica conducted a field test for the Assessing the Implementation and Cost of High Quality Early Care and Education (ICHQ) Project. The goals of the field test were to:
- Refine implementation measures to further improve and establish their psychometric properties
- Refine cost measures to identify costs associated with each key function and across ages of children
- Test the associations between implementation, cost, and quality measures.
The research team recruited a purposive sample of 80 centers in Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, and Pennsylvania to participate in the field test and conducted data collection from April to December 2021. Implementation interviews (DS2) were conducted by phone with either one or a few key staff who knew the most about the center's operations and educational program. Cost data (DS5) were collected in an electronic spreadsheet by staff who knew the most about each center's finances. A web-based time-use survey collected information about how all teaching staff and select center administrators spend their time in activities related to providing early care and education services (DS3). The research team also conducted a center engagement interview to gather information about center characteristics (DS1), and an additional survey of all teaching staff (the same respondents identified for the time-use survey) to assess their perceptions of center practices and the work environment (DS4).

College and Beyond II (CBII) Alumni Survey, [United States], 2021 (ICPSR 38299)
The purpose of College and Beyond II (CBII) is to better understand how students' undergraduate experiences in and out of the classroom relate to their long-run development. The CBII Alumni Survey provides data collected from graduates ten years after earning their bachelor's degrees. It serves as the main source of information on students' long-run development for the study series. Domains covered by the CBII Alumni Survey include arts appreciation and engagement; health and well-being; labor market participation and wealth; civic engagement; beliefs about diversity and pluralism; and democratic participation. The survey also asks about respondents' recollections of their college experiences, as well as their current family structure, social identities, educational attainment, experiences with discrimination, and political and religious identification. The survey contains scales that are widely used in various disciplines such as education, economics, political science, and psychology.
The CBII Alumni Survey data can be linked to other studies in the CBII series using the ID_PERSON anonymized student identifier. These CBII studies provide information about respondents' academic backgrounds, undergraduate course transcripts, descriptions of courses taken, and postsecondary enrollment and degree attainment. Contextual data about respondents' neighborhoods can be linked to the National Neighborhood Data Archive using current zip codes, and contextual data about the colleges respondents applied to can be linked to the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System using U.S. Department of Education UNITID identifiers.

A Case Study of K-12 School Employee Sexual Misconduct: Lessons Learned from Title IX Policy Implementation, United States, 1984-2014 (ICPSR 36870)
These data are part of NACJD's Fast Track Release and are distributed as they were received from the data depositor. This study was designed to examine how districts that experienced an incident of school employee sexual misconduct in 2014 defined, interpreted, and implemented key elements of Title IX before, during, and after an incident. The study used a qualitative case study design with a purposeful sample of five districts recruited from a database of 459 districts who experienced a case of school employee sexual misconduct in 2014. The study was conducted between January 2016 and September 2017.
Data collected included: 1) various district documents, 2) 41 interviews with primary actors (school employees and county officials directly involved in responding to the incident), 3) 10 focus groups with 51 secondary actors (school employees who were not directly involved with the incident but who might have been indirectly affected by it), and 4) offender, victim and district characteristics. Documents reviewed included written policies and protocols, training materials and handbooks for staff and students, case documents, and other guiding documents as applicable. In interviews and focus groups, participants were asked to discuss their knowledge of district policies and procedures, to describe the dissemination of and any changes to these policies and procedures, and to provide recommendations for improvement. To protect the confidentiality all district and participant identifying information is confidential and has been removed from any reporting.
Eurobarometer 83.4: Climate Change, Biodiversity, and Discrimination of Minority Groups, May-June 2015 (ICPSR 36403)
The Eurobarometer series is a unique cross-national and cross-temporal survey program conducted on behalf of the European Commission. These surveys regularly monitor public opinion in the European Union (EU) member countries and consist of standard modules and special topic modules. The standard modules address attitudes towards European unification, institutions and policies, measurements for general socio-political orientations, as well as respondent and household demographics. The special topic modules address such topics as agriculture, education, natural environment and resources, public health, public safety and crime, and science and technology.
This round of Eurobarometer surveys includes the standard modules and covers the following special topics: (1) Climate Change, (2) Biodiversity, (3) and Discrimination of Minority Groups. Respondent's opinions were collected on which world issues they believed were the most serious problems, how serious the issue of climate change was and if the EU should be responsible for addressing it, and what actions the have personally taken to fight climate change. Additional questions were asked regarding biodiversity and the dangers presented problems such as the decline of natural habitats and animal and plant species, and how these issues should be addressed by various groups. Respondents were also queried about their knowledge of Natura 2000 and other nature protection networks. Lastly, respondents were questioned regarding their experiences of and attitudes toward discrimination.
Demographic and other background information collected includes age, gender, nationality, marital status and parental relations, occupation, age when stopped full-time education, left-right political self-placement, household composition, ownership of durable goods, difficulties in paying bills, self-assessed social class, and Internet use. In addition, country-specific data includes type and size of locality, region of residence, and language of interview (select countries). Pre-archive/1st release version.

The Eurobarometer series is a unique cross-national and cross-temporal survey program conducted on behalf of the European Commission. Respondent's opinions were collected on life satisfaction, area of living, healthcare, pension system, unemployment benefits, cost of benefits, the way the country is run, cost of living and affordability of energy and housing, in present time, in next twelve months and compared to five years ago. Thoughts about why people live in poverty were collected, general trustworthiness of people, views on how to help solve social and economic problems and views about education. As it relates to Science Research and Innovation respondents were asked how people's actions will affect the following 15 years from now: fight against climate change, Protections of the environment, energy supply, health and medical care, job creation, availability and quality of food, as well as transport and transport infrastructure. Opinions were collected on priorities for science and technological innovation. Respondents were asked about their academic past in studying science and technology.
