Databases, archives, and repositories serve as topical collections containing studies, datasets, and other research-related documents. They hold both restricted and public-use data files that can be used for quantitative and qualitative analysis. Search through the archives by topic, variable, or title. Find data for your next research study!

Search Tips

  • Our data search indexes the full documentation for a dataset, including the variable descriptions.
  • Search is not case-sensitive.
  • Use quotes to find an exact phrase; use the minus sign to remove items from results:
    "Teaching mathematics" -calculus
  • If you enter multiple search terms, all results will contain all terms.
  • Stemming is automatic (e.g., search results will be the same for “education” and “educational”); there is no need to use an asterisk.

Search Variables

The variable search tool allows researchers to find data elements of specific interest and, where applicable, to discover the question text used in collecting each variable. The search tool also reports and links variables derived from the combination of other variables (indices, multi-variable measures, etc.) and root variables which have been used in the creation of such derived variables.
