Abortion

Abortion was not one of the most prominent issues in the 2016 election, but the candidates differed on this issue, and their differences reflected the usual differences between Democrats and Republicans on abortion. Clinton supported keeping abortion legal and opposed attempts to make it more difficult for women to exercise what she termed their reproductive rights. During the campaign, Trump stated that he was opposed to abortion, promised to nominate pro-life justices to the Supreme Court, talked about overturning Roe v. Wade, and promised to defund Planned Parenthood.
