Linda Detterman
Biography
Linda Detterman serves as Director of the Membership & Communications Unit at ICPSR within the University of Michigan’s Institute for Social Research. She leads a team focused on enhancing the experience of ICPSR’s global community through user-centered website design, graphic and video services, editorial and social media strategy, conference and event management, membership engagement, and communications for the ICPSR Summer Program. Her work centers on expanding awareness, use, and impact of ICPSR’s data collections and training resources while ensuring that all content is accessible and responsive to the needs of diverse audiences.
Linda is a strong advocate for continuous improvement in user experience and thoughtful data stewardship. Under her guidance, the unit emphasizes accessible design; frequent, engaging communication; and training and outreach activities that support researchers, instructors, data producers, sponsors, and ICPSR member institutions. Her team’s values — collaboration, creativity, respect, and a sense of fun — shape their approach to serving the global research community.
Before joining ICPSR, Linda built a successful career in market research and strategic planning. She was Vice President of Planning and Research at MORPACE International in Farmington Hills, Michigan, where she oversaw major research initiatives and advised clients on data-driven strategy. She also held marketing and planning roles at Doner Advertising and The Los Angeles Times, gaining deep experience in audience engagement and communication strategy.
Linda holds an MBA from Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and a BA in Business Administration from Alma College. She brings this blend of strategic insight, communication expertise, and commitment to service to her leadership at ICPSR.
