ICPSR Forum

The ICPSR Forum provides a space for opt-in, participant directed conversations via email or Slack about ICPSR data, training, resources, and related topics. Forum participants are encouraged to initiate and respond to discussions according to the community guidelines below. ICPSR Data Fair and Biennial Meeting participants are automatically granted access.

Discussion Focuses and Guidelines

Discussions in the ICPSR Forum might include:

  • Promotion of data-related events and resources by both ICPSR and individual participants
  • Requests for support finding data sets
  • Requests for support in data analysis
  • Job opening announcements
  • Other related conversation

We know you’re better than this, but it must be said. ICPSR Forum participants will not engage in:

  • Selling products or services
  • Foul language
  • Trolling
  • Discussions that violate the community guidelines

Culture

The ICPSR Forum is a welcoming community of:

  • ICPSR Official and Designated Representatives
  • Faculty, students and staff at member institutions
  • Members of the public interested in ICPSR data, training and resources
  • The ICPSR Forum is international

These discussions take place over email and Slack. By applying to the ICPSR Forum, you agree to receive emails from other Forum participants at the email address you provide. Please note that participation in the Forum may result in a large amount of email. The ICPSR Forum participants may choose to opt out at any time, but will be required to fill out the application again to restart participation.

Forum participation

The ICPSR Forum is open to the public, but participants must apply and be accepted before access is granted. Apply here.

Forum participants agree to the following statements:

  • I agree to be a good citizen of this Forum
  • I agree to adhere to the stated discussion focuses of the Forum
  • I agree to not use foul language or be a troll in the Forum
  • I agree that I will not use the Forum to attempt to sell a product or service
  • I understand that I may be removed from the Forum with no notice if I violate these terms

Although we hope to rarely see these messages, concerns about ICPSR Forum participants may be sent to the ICPSR membership team at ICPSR-membership@umich.edu. ICPSR Forum participants may be removed at any time at the sole discretion of the ICPSR managing staff.

The ICPSR Forum is hosted by ICPSR. Questions can be directed to the ICPSR membership team at ICPSR-membership@umich.edu. If you are interested in becoming a Discussion Manager or Working Group leader, please let us know.
