What is your ICPSR Job Title? Research Technician Lead
What is a favorite memory or instance you have working at ICPSR? What makes ICPSR a great place to work? The freedom I have in my position to be creative and innovative is the best thing about this job. I can create new projects, or add my own touch to current projects, or take projects down a new path. I also really appreciate the responsibility my supervisors give me, for instance I was only working here for 4 months when I was asked to go to represent ICPSR at a conference. I really appreciate that degree of liberty in working, because it allows me to use my expertise and turn these projects into something fun and exciting for me.
Where are you from? El Paso, Texas
What is your favorite part of your job? RCMD! I love working at this sub-archive! I am a sociologist and I come from an underrepresented group, and a lot of the work we do in RCMD resonates with me and motivates me to be creative. We also do a lot of hands on equity building, which I totally live for, so working on RCMD is kind of a dream job for me.
How long have you worked here? Less than 6 months
What do you do when not at work? I like to do weightlifting, I work out daily. I enjoy writing, especially now that I am in a totally new place, and I am experiencing new things. I’ve gotten back into photography, and photo editing. I really enjoy hanging out with friends, going to the bars in town, trying new beers and wines.
What have you read/viewed/listened to/etc. recently? I have been watching a Catalan show on Netflix called Merli, I also am reading a short story from a local author whom I recently met at Sweetwaters.
What might surprise us about you? I’m not sure if I have any surprises left – at least not ones I can write here… I am mostly an open book, most of the office knows about my political views and activism. I come from a state that actively engages the law to oppress and control the population, and I openly vocalize opposition to that.
