Love Data Week with ICPSR
An international celebration of data, hosted by ICPSR, taking place every year during the week of Valentine’s day. Universities, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, corporations and individuals are encouraged to host and participate in data-related events and activities.
ICPSR is proud to be the host institution for International Love Data Week.
This year’s theme: Where’s the Data?

This year’s Love Data Week theme is “Where’s the Data?” – a way to get people thinking about data’s journey from collection through storage and preservation. The theme opens up exciting possibilities for interactive programming, whether that’s hosting data-themed games, building data literacy skills, or diving into the ethics of responsible data use. Our goal is to connect everyone – from data newcomers to veterans – with the training and resources they need to make progress on issues close to their hearts. We can’t wait to see what creative events and activities you come up with!

Activity: Adopt a Dataset
Looking for a quick, fun way to participate in Love Data Week? Adopt a dataset! Just choose one from the list of datasets available for adoption (or any dataset in the ICPSR holdings), download it, and start exploring—it’s that easy.
Adopting a dataset is kind of like adopting a pet, except less messy. Choose a dataset that interests you, fill out the Adoption Form, and dig into the data. Bring your dataset to life and share what you learn through email, social media, and more. Hint: we have images and templates that make sharing easy.
Finish your adoption and download a Certificate of Adoption. You can even be featured on our Wall of Honor. Get ready to feel warm fuzzies and a deep sense of pride.
ICPSR’s Adopt a Dataset program is free and open to everyone—students, researchers, nonprofit staff, or anyone curious about data.
- Pick a dataset from the data available for adoption list
- Fill out the short Adoption Form
- Explore your data like a detective: Is it numbers? Categories? A bit wild?
- Share your discoveries using email or social media with #ICPSR and #LoveData26
- Snag your Certificate of Adoption and see your name on the Wall of Honor
- Spread the love – invite others to adopt their own dataset

Activity: Adopt a Dataset
ICPSR’s Adopt a Dataset program is free and open to the public until 5 p.m. EST on the last day of Love Data Week. Researchers, nonprofit staff members, undergraduate students, and anyone else who wants to learn about data is encouraged to adopt a dataset from the list below.
What does it mean to adopt a dataset?
Adopting a dataset is kind of like adopting a pet, except less messy. Get started by reviewing the list of datasets below to find something of interest to you. Fill out the Dataset Adoption Form, and then download, analyze online, or just review the summary information for your adopted data. Your role is to bring your dataset to life by learning about the information it contains and to share the information you’re learning through email, social media, virtual meetings, and more. Use the images and templates below to get started.
When you fill out your Dataset Adoption Form, you can expect to feel warm fuzzies and a deep sense of pride. You’ll receive a digital Certificate of Adoption and, if you choose, your name will appear on the Adopt a Dataset Wall of Honor, along with others who have adopted their own datasets.
