About this Collection

These surveys, conducted by the Bureau of the Census as part of their Current Population Survey, collected information on participants in adult and continuing education activities throughout the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Information was collected on types of courses taken, types of institutions or agencies offering courses, reasons for taking the courses, and the respondent's age, sex, and race.

Participation in Adult Education [United States]: Demographics for May 1969 and May 1972

This survey collected information on participants and nonparticipants in adult and continuing education activities throughout the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Conducted by the Bureau of the Census as part of the May 1969 and May 1972 Current Population Surveys (ICPSR 7935 and 7996), the adult education survey collected information on the respondent's age, race, sex, regular years of school completed, family income, work experience, occupation, veteran status, marital status, relationship to head of household, number of children in household, and geographic and urban/rural nature of area of residence.
