Did you adopt a dataset? You can still find resources below:

What does it mean to adopt a dataset?

Adopting a dataset is kind of like adopting a dog, except less messy. When you fill out your Dataset Adoption Form, you can expect to feel warm fuzzies and a deep sense of pride. You'll receive a digital Certificate of Adoption and, if you choose, your name will appear at the bottom of this page along with others who have adopted their own datasets.

Your role is to bring your dataset to life by learning about the information it contains and introducing it to anyone who hasn't met it before (by sharing via email and social media).

How do I adopt a dataset?

  1. Scroll to the bottom of this page to review the list of datasets available for adoption (or choose from any dataset in the ICPSR holdings
  2. Fill out the Dataset Adoption Form
  3. Within 24 hours you'll receive a personalized email with your data adoption certificate
  4. You can adopt your dataset today! Datasets will be available for adoption until February 16th at 4pm EST.

I adopted a dataset, now what?

  • Download your dataset, including any accompanying documentation
  • Get to know your data. Is it numeric? Is it category? Is it messy?
  • Find something interesting, like an unexpected variable. Share your new fact with ICPSR by sending us an email or using #ICPSR on social media (don't forget to use #LoveData19 too!)
  • Share your dataset! Send an email like the one below to friends, family, coworkers and students. Encourage them to adopt their own datasets!
  • Join us at one of the virtual Love Data Week events below
  • Look for your name on the Adopt a Dataset Wall of Honor
