Faces of ICPSR: Ann Glusker
As an Official Representative (OR) for ICPSR at her institution, Ann Glusker helps promote ICPSR resources on campus and assists data users in locating, downloading, and working with ICPSR data. Get to know Ann:
Where do you work and what is your job title?
UC Berkeley Library, Social Sciences and Research Methods Librarian
What is a favorite memory or instance you have working with ICPSR? What makes ICPSR a great place?
The warmth and enthusiasm make it great, and they translate into belonging. At the last biennial conference, my husband came along, and was treated as an honorary campus representative, right down to the hat (which he still wears). I still marvel at how welcoming this was!
Where are you from?
Originally from Philadelphia (still homesick), but mostly Seattle.
What is your favorite part of working with ICPSR?
I love the hidden treasures! I can be exploring ICPSR-web territory I feel I know well, and find something new so often!
How long have you worked with ICPSR?
I used ICPSR data as a graduate student in the 1990s, and came back to it as a librarian in the 2010s.
What do you do when not at work?
I am a singer, mystery reader, Anglophile, traveler, and cat lady.
What have you read/viewed/listened to/etc. recently?
I just re-read one of my favorite mystery novels, "The Nine Tailors", by Dorothy Sayers (after whom one of my cats is named-- the other is named for Josephine Tey, and I think it means I need to re-read "The Daughter of Time").
What might surprise us about you?
I lived in Japan for two years right after college, and can still sing a Japanese drinking song (in Japanese) with the hand motions!
Anything else that you'd like to share with us?
My Biennial haiku:
ICPSR
Representative, I’m so
Proud to be one! Yes.
