Webinar: Accessing and Using the Understanding Children’s Transitions from Head Start to Kindergarten (HS2K) Data
When: August 17, 2023 at 1-2PM ET
HS2K was designed to better understand how to improve children’s transitions from Head Start programs to elementary schools. Central to this project was a systems approach that recognizes that effective transitions require intentional engagement from both the sending programs (Head Start) and the receiving programs (elementary schools).
This qualitative dataset includes transcripts from interviews with classroom teachers in Head Start and kindergarten, Head Start center directors and elementary school principals, and Head Start program directors and managers and K-12 district administrators, and kindergarten parents/caregivers. They also include focus group transcripts with Head Start parents/caregivers. These data aim to address research questions regarding perspectives, strategies and practices, policies, and professional supports across multiple levels within the Head Start and K-12 systems and the perceived key short- and long-term outcomes of these strategies. The webinar will provide researchers and analysts with:
- HS2K history, design, and participants
- Data file structure and conventions
- Data user resources
- Overview of the Child and Family Data Archive
- Accessing the HS2K data
