Healthy Flint Research Coordinating Center, a collaboration of UM-Flint, UM-Ann Arbor, MSU, and Flint community partners, introduces Open Data Flint project
Attendees of the White House’s first Open Data Innovation Summit got a glimpse of a project on Wednesday (9/28/16) called Open Data Flint. Open Data Flint is an open-to-the-community data repository that aims to assist the community of Flint, Michigan to:

Bring together data to help build the evidence base to achieve a healthier Flint community.

Gain a deeper understanding of the far-reaching impact of the water crisis on the Flint population.
Open Data Flint is a project of the Healthy Flint Research Coordinating Center, which is a collaboration between community leaders, community-based organization partners, and researchers at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan-Flint, and Michigan State University.
The growing Open Data Flint collection currently includes data on community health, relationship dynamics and social life, school dropout and substance use, and small business.
“We’re still in the beginning stages, but what we have now consists of the seeds that will sprout, making this an invaluable data resource for the community,” said Amy Pienta, director of data acquisitions at ICPSR, a data archive within the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan. Pienta traveled to Washington to showcase the project at the Open Data Innovation Summit.

The community organization behind Open Data Flint archive is expanding an email list of faculty, staff and students interested in research in Flint, Michigan, to increase information transfer.
The Healthy Flint Research Coordinating Center is organized to create synergy in research, foster academic-community partnerships, and develop innovative solutions to community defined issues.
In collaboration with the Flint community, the Healthy Flint Research Center is a partnership among UM/Flint, UM/Ann Arbor, and MSU to work to aid Flint recover and rebuild from the water crisis.
