Google has unveiled a new Dataset Search feature, with a nod to ICPSR in its launch announcement. ICPSR was able to preview the feature during its alpha release and provided feedback. According to the Google Dataset Search Team, “this launch is just the first step, and we hope the ecosystem will grow from here!”

“We are happy to share our study descriptions, or metadata records, to promote wider awareness and use of ICPSR’s data resources,” said Jared Lyle, ICPSR’s director of Metadata and Preservation, highlighting some of the resources ICPSR offers the data community:

  • ICPSR has produced study descriptions, or metadata records, describing our holdings since the organization began in 1962.

  • ICPSR’s rich, comprehensive metadata help users find and reuse our data.

  • ICPSR staff put lots of care and attention into creating our metadata, which helps make our data collections valuable and unique.

  • ICPSR shares metadata using open standards like schema.org and the Data Documentation Initiative (DDI) standard.
