American National Election Study, 1962

This study is part of a time-series collection of national surveys fielded continuously since 1952. The election studies are designed to present data on Americans' social backgrounds, enduring political predispositions, social and political values, perceptions and evaluations of groups and candidates, opinions on questions of public policy, and participation in political life.

A cross-section of the population living in private households in the continental United States. Transients, residents of institutions, and persons living on military reservations were not represented. A multistage, stratified probability sample of dwelling units was drawn in 66 primary sampling units (the 12 largest metropolitan areas and 54 other areas, selected on the basis of various controls).

United States citizens 18 years of age and older.
