Myron Gutmann

Myron P. Gutmann is a Research Professor at ICPSR, and Professor in both the History Department and School of Information at the University of Michigan. He is currently Assistant Director at the National Science Foundation as Head of the Directorate for the Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences. Dr. Gutmann has a broad range of interests in interdisciplinary historical population studies, especially relating population to agricultural, the environment, and health. He also studies ways that digital materials can be properly preserved and shared, and how the confidentiality of research subjects can be protected when data about them is made available for secondary use. He teaches about historical demography and about the social, demographic, and economic history of Europe and the Americas. Dr. Gutmann was an originator of the Longitudinal Analysis of Historical Demographic Data workshop.
